What do YOU THINK?

 

            Are these values derived from the Constitution? The Bible? Capitalism? Democracy? Immigration? Are "AMERICAN CORE VALUES” static or always changing?

 

            Investigating the concept of American Core Values is the purpose of this site. As a trained Philosopher I hope to outline a format for the discussion of this idea and hopefully a format for others to contribute to and share in the discussion. In any philosophical discussion it is imperative to clearly define terms and agree to or amend and agree to those definitions. Sometimes, even terms within a definition need to be defined.

DEFINITIONS WE WILL USE:

Capitalism: an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market

Democracy: a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority

b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

Religion:

1. a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion>    b  (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural   (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance

2. : a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
3.  archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness
4. : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
